Hello to all of my amazing followers and a very Happy New Year to you!

I am here to send you many happy and successful wishes for 2021, and I dearly hope its going to be a healthy year for you all!

2020 has been a tough year for us with the Coronavirus Pandemic going on, we all haven’t been able to enjoy the things we set out to do and yes the start of 2021 will still be tough, but all we can do is pray and say that we are one day closer of coming out of this mess!

There are a lot of things I am looking forward to 2021, a couple of these chapters include, me and Isobel moving in together, adventuring out to many more UK historical sites and finally trying some new beers and whiskies!

It’s now time to move onto today’s post which is on a magnificent beer called Burton Bridge Porter!

History

Burton Bridge Porter is a luxurious beer that is brewed by the Burton Bridge Brewery, luckily enough the brewery is situated in my hometown of Burton Upon Trent!

This brewery is absolutely marvellous, the benefit of this brewery is that it also has its own pub connected to the site!

In previous years when I’ve visited, you can enjoy a pint in the bar and then you can take in the amazing views, by looking at the brewery itself, its a marvellous feeling!

It is named as the Burton Bridge Brewery because the site is located right next to the Burton Bridge (Old Bridge) which is built across the River Trent, which flows through Burton Upon Trent. 

Many people who are from Burton, will have known the Burton Bridge Inn was originally known as The Fox and Goose, it was renamed in 1981 and became Burton Bridge Inn, and still to this day this is the current name. 

A lot of reports suggested that the Burton Bridge Brewery was first established in 1982 and the two heroes that formed this business were Geoff Mumford and Bruce Wilkinson. 

The brewery has a wide available selection of beers which can be found in many pubs within the Staffordshire and Derbyshire area, I do have my personal favourites, but the one beer that stood out the most was Burton Bridge Porter. 

Many years ago, porters were rarely found in the Midlands, your most typical beers were bitters and IPAs, I believe it was after so much time, porters became exclusive to the midlands along with all the other style of beers. 

One thing you have to take into consideration is that porters are different to stouts, there is only a small difference. 

Stouts generically use a unmalted roaster barley, this is how many stouts are provided with that delicious coffee flavour. 

Porters, on the other hand, use malted barley, this usually provides a sweet drink which can bring you flavours of dried fruits, perfect for winter then!

Burton Bridge Porter has been awarded twice by CAMRA (Campaign Of Real Ale), firstly it was awarded Silver in 2011 at the West Midlands CAMRA Beer Of The Year, secondly it was awarded Bronze in 2017 at the West Midlands CAMRA Beer Of The Year!

This beer is truly remarkable, it has so much flavour, and it was a perfect drink to indulge into over the festive period. 

Tasting Notes 

A dark ruby beer with hints of chocolate and dried fruits, slightly roasted which delivers a sweet bitter balance!

Review

Burton Bridge Porter was my next bottled beer that I was really looking forward to trying over the festive period!

To be honest this beer was matched perfectly with Isobel’s Christmas Pudding which she made herself, oh yes the Christmas Pudding that Isobel makes is absolutely gorgeous, this is the second time I’ve tried it and it just gets better and better!

I will have to admit though, majority of the times when I’ve tried a porter I always have it with a dessert. 

The Burton Bridge Porter is a beautiful beer, it was probably the best decision I’ve ever made on selecting a beer. 

The most important feature you have to understand about some bottled beers is that, when serving your specific drink, it is vital to read the information on the bottle. 

This porter is best served when its cool, this is usually classed as room temperature, if you decide to chill your beer, then you may loose those succulent flavours that you were really looking forward to. 

Also, you might notice this beer is bottled conditioned, this means it contains sediment, if you accidentally shake this bottle, it will pour out cloudy and then sadly you will have to chuck the beer away. 

Please read the information on the bottle, you don’t want to end up chucking the beer down the drain, or even worse being ill!

I truly couldn’t believe the beautiful flavours this beer was delivering, it was amazing!

There were enormous amounts of chocolate flavours, as well as sweet dried fruit flavours such as raisins and currents. 

This beer was completely light and highly moreish, if only I had a second bottle, never mind, will just have to wait until its safe and then I can try it again. 

But rest assure, I can definitely say this beer delivers the most beautiful amounts of flavour and aromas!

Ending 

I hope this post has made you realise how much I really love this beer, it is perfect, it has topped the list of the best beers that I’ve tried over the festive period. 

It is why, I have to recommend this beer to you, if any of my followers are after a beer which is completely full of flavour then Burton Bridge Porter is truly the one to go for. 

Just like majority of beers, Burton Bridge Porter has a story and what an amazing adventure it brings!
