Badger Brewery has once again made its way onto our tasting table and after the stunning Cherry Mild we tried earlier in the year, expectations were high. This review marks the second installment in our Badger Brewery tasting.
Our first tasting featured Frank’s Integrity 7.0% ABV. A cracking strong English Ale that showcases heritage. Watch Frank’s Integrity here to see our full review
Our article here features another fantastic beer that has poured its way out of Badger Brewery. Outland Blonde 5.0% ABV, a classical and refreshing Belgian Style beer.
Pouring & First Impressions of Outland Blonde
Before we even cracked the can open, one thing caught our attention was the striking blue and yellow can design, which showcases our colours of The Cask Connoisseur.
On opening the can, the aroma hits instantly bright, fruity and unmistakably Belgian in character. As it pours, the beer reveals a pure, golden-blonde hue that immediately lives up to its name.
The nose evokes memories of classic Belgian brews and even those fragrant aromas you might find drifting through a traditional German-style market: fruity, slightly funky, and full of character. Tropical notes rise first, followed by hints of citrus and a touch of malt sweetness. It’s inviting, fresh, and beautifully balanced.
Straight from the can (at room temperature, no less), the carbonation sits pleasantly soft. Unlike many canned beers that can be aggressively fizzy, Outland Blonde keeps things smooth, creamy, and very drinkable.
Flavour Profile
From the first sip moreish becomes the defining word of this beer.
- Style – A sensational golden and blonde hue which defines the can.
- Aroma – Fruity and citrus. The expected Belgian beer scent, heavily malty.
- Taste – Malt becomes intensive, yet but balanced. Creamy mouthfeel which is incredibly smooth.
- Aftertaste – An overall light beer that has a balanced bitterness that isn’t over powering on the palate.
Even for drinkers who typically find Belgian beers a touch too hoppy or bitter, this one lands comfortably in the middle ground. The flavours on the can fruity, golden, lightly hoppy match the experience almost perfectly. It’s satisfying when a brewery gets its tasting notes spot on.
At 5% ABV, it’s deceptively easy-drinking. One of those beers you could enjoy a little too quickly before realising it’s time to slow down.
Food Pairing Recommendation
Badger Brewery suggests pairing the Blonde with moules frites (mussels and chips) and honestly, they’ve nailed it. The fruity aroma and soft zestiness would cut beautifully through the briny sweetness of mussels. Even without the chips, seafood in general seems a natural companion.
That said, we also enjoyed this alongside a simple chicken traybake, and it worked just as well. Its versatility is a strong plus.
Serving Temperature: Room Temp Wins
Although many canned beers benefit from a chill, this one shines brightest at room temperature. Chilling it too much might mute some of the delicate Belgian-style esters and fruit notes that make it special. As we tried it straight from its packaging at ambient temperature, it delivered wonderfully.
Final Thoughts of Outland Blonde
Badger Brewery continues to impress, and Outland Blonde is no exception. From the stylish design to the bright aroma and delightfully creamy finish, this beer is a standout Belgian-style blonde that’s both accessible and full of character. It’s the kind of beer you crack open intending to take a few tasting sips then suddenly realise you’ve nearly finished the glass.
For fans of Belgian blondes, casual drinkers looking for something fruity and refreshing, or anyone exploring Badger’s Outland range, this is a beer well worth seeking out.
