Beer Business
Diageo, the owner of Guinness, has regrettably announced a supply shortage of one of the UK’s favorite creamy, smooth stouts. This is due to high demand and currently means Guinness is only readily available in 50L kegs. As a result, many pubs have been forced to switch off their Guinness pumps, with wholesalers across the UK halting supply. However, this situation has caused many publicans nationwide to panic buy in an effort to secure enough Guinness for the festive season and meet customer demand.
Beer Releases
Nottingham based Magpie Brewery have recently launched a brand new beer, Marching Orders 3.6% ABV in support of Scotty’s Little Soldiers, a charity cause to provide generous good will to many children around the UK. This new bitter can be pre-ordered through the brewery’s website and all profits that are made are being donated to the children’s charity.
One of UK’s busiest train operators, Avanti West Coast, have partnered with Birmingham Brewing Company to create a low alcohol pale ale which will be available for passengers to purchase onboard Avanti’s trains. Safety Thirst (0.5% ABV) has been created as part of a campaign which is designed to promote and improve passenger safety over the festive period. This campaign also specifies and entices people to have a drink responsibly over the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Background – Here at The Cask Connoisseur, even though we’re not subscribed to every potential newsletter or source of information, we receive around four hundred emails over the course of a month with various promotions, new release information, brewery newsletters, updates etc. Add on social media posts and that amounts to somewhere well over 1000 pieces of information being reviewed per month. The aim of this monthly round up is to provide a summary of the most interesting bits along with upcoming events that can be gleaned from them. The downside to a monthly review is a lot of “special offers” will have come and gone.
