Vault City’s Brewing Mini Crunch Honeycomb Stout is one of those beers that instantly grabs your attention, and after a full Easter lineup of dessert stouts, it might just be the standout of them all. On our Easter beer journey so far, we’ve enjoyed the following: Naughty & Nice Chocolate Stout, Naughty & Nice White Chocolate & Raspberry and a fantastic Mini Egg Chocolate Stout.
There’s something about Easter that brings out the best in dessert beers, and this year has been no exception. After working our way through a series of indulgent stouts, we’ve landed on what could genuinely be the highlight: The Mini Crunch Honeycomb Stout.
From the moment it’s poured, this beer sets expectations high. In the glass, this deep, dark, and almost cola-like in appearance, with a richness that immediately signals you’re in stout territory. But it’s the aroma where things really start to get interesting.
Mini Crunch Honeycomb Stout Aroma
This is easily one of the most expressive noses we’ve come across in a dessert stout. This stout doesn’t settle for a one-note chocolate hit. Instead, you’re greeted with layers of honeycomb, caramel, and cinder toffee.
There’s a warmth and sweetness that feels far more complex than many beers in this category, with a nostalgic edge that brings to mind everything from Crunchie bars to old-school pick ‘n’ mix.
It’s inviting, indulgent, and frankly, difficult to stop smelling.
Mini Crunch Honeycomb Stout Taste
Thankfully, this beer delivers on everything the aroma promises.
This is where the beer really shines. The honeycomb and caramel notes come through beautifully, creating that unmistakable “cinder toffee” character. It’s rich and dessert-like, but not overwhelmingly sweet in the way some pastry stouts can be. In fact, after a few sips, the beer starts to feel surprisingly balanced.
There’s a smoothness to it as well, helped along by the lactose and malt bill, giving it a creamy mouthfeel without becoming heavy. Subtle notes of brown sugar and vanilla round things off, adding depth without distracting from the core honeycomb profile.
Finish
The finish is where the Mini Crunch Honeycomb Stout cements itself as something special. That lingering honeycomb sweetness sticks around just long enough to keep you coming back for more, without becoming cloying.
It’s reminiscent of biting into a Crunchie bar, but smoother and more refined. If anything, it might even be better.
Overall Thoughts on Mini Crunch Honeycomb Stout
What really stands out about this honeycomb flavoured beer is how well put together it is. It would have been easy to lean too far into sweetness or gimmick, but instead, it feels deliberate and well-balanced.
Yes, the ingredient list (including cinder toffee) clearly gives it a helping hand, but the end result is genuinely impressive.
At around 6% ABV, it also drinks far more easily than you might expect. In fact, this stout is dangerously sessionable for something this indulgent, making it one of those beers you could easily have more than one of without realising.
Food Pairing (or Not…)
The Mini Crunch Honeycomb Stout is a dessert in its own right, but if you really want to push things further, it pairs beautifully with vanilla ice cream or even a bit of actual honeycomb on the side.
That said, it’s more than capable of standing on its own as a sweet treat replacement.
Final Verdict
This was, without question, the winner of our Easter lineup.
A brilliantly executed dessert stout that delivers on aroma, flavour, and drinkability, the Mini Crunch Honeycomb Stout is a must-try for anyone with a sweet tooth.
