The Cask Connoisseur’s latest sample honours the annual ‘Mild May‘ which symbolises one of the greatest revival styles of beer that has increased in popularity over the years. Mild May is significantly supported by breweries and pubs alike. Mild May can traditionally be celebrated by local festivals or ale trails.
In The Cask Connoisseur’s latest review, Luke and Chris had the pleasure of sampling a new brew, Red Rascal Cherry Mild 4.0% ABV brewed by Dorset’s Badger Brewery.
Who is Badger Brewery?
Badger Brewery have been expertly brewing beer in Dorset for over 240 years. Although the name Badger Brewery was officially incorporated in 1974, the building itself has been standing since 1777.
It was back then when local farmer Charles Hall brewed the first ever beer in Dorset. To the present day the quality of ingredients used has not changed and the brewery’s message is key. They thrive on making decent ale on the banks of the River Stour.
Our first impressions on the first sample of Red Rascal?
Cherry!Cherry!Cherry!
As soon as the bottle lid has been cracked the greeting of enormous amounts of cherries and milk Chocolate is mega. A vibrant amber mahogany colour sits in the glass which has a small amount of transparency.
There is no surprise that this cherrilicious aroma travels through the nose, parks on the palate and lingers around. This makes you want to go in for another sip.
Red Rascal is rewardingly sweet, cherries and chocolate combined together that makes it ultimately exquisite.
Tasting Notes of Red Rascal Cherry Mild from Our Connoisseurs
- Appearance:A warming, welcoming mild with a deep mahogany hue and a creamy head that clings charmingly to the glass.
- Aroma: A cherry farm inside a glass with smooth scents of dark and milk chocolate which isn’t overly complex. A rewarding aroma that lives up to its name.
- Flavour: Moreish after each sip is taken! A creamy texture from the head of the beer that is balanced remarkably well with more cherry that makes you think of an old traditional sweet shop. It’s a delicious beer that is well rounded and ticks all the boxes to be able to enjoy this throughout the year.
How to enjoy Red Rascal Cherry Mild
Although both Connoisseurs had the opportunity to sample this marvellous mild to celebrate Mild May, there is no reason you can’t enjoy this beer throughout the year.
One such way could be sitting in front of the roaring fire in preparation for winter. You could also sample this beer whilst sitting back and taking in the scenic views whilst on holiday.
If you enjoy family camping holidays, this beer is perfect for toasting marshmallows around the campfire.
Our Connoisseur’s Conclusion On Red Rascal Cherry Mild.
The finish reminds Luke of an old sweet shop, with notes of boiled sweets, strawberry laces, and rhubarb and custards. The type of sweets that are best enjoyed when you are about to go on holiday.
Both Luke and Chris, compiled their tasting and concluded that Red Rascal is a beer that deserves a truly big WOW! It’s got everything and is certainly a beer that can be enjoyed throughout ‘Mild May’ or any other time throughout the year.
