It’s a true statement that every beer that has been reviewed at The Cask Connoisseur there’s always a story behind the name, brewery and taste of beer. Having these unexpected surprises does change the expectations on not just how flavourful the beer is, but how much it can totally blow your mind away.
With all the above set in stone together, this begins the story from the birthplace of this revived pale ale Dalit King 5.0% ABV, as it starts its journey from Little Valley Brewery before finally nestling in Yorkshire’s Great Newsome Brewery.
This is our second beer that we’ve sampled from Great Newsome Brewery, if you want to read our review on Frothingham Best Bitter, you can find out more here.
Who were Little Valley Brewery
It was 2005 when this family based brewery located in Cragg Vale, West Yorkshire worked there own magic to create a core range of quality fine bottled beers. Then, in 2024, it was publicly announced that the sale of Little Valley Brewery was passed onto the hands of Great Newsome Brewery who continue to thrive the magic of producing these classical West Yorkshire beers that locals are proud to drink.
Our First Impressions on the first sample of Dalit King
At first for Luke and Chris they had the task of understanding how Dalit King was on the verge of being scrapped from the pubs around the country. It’s in doubt when you think of a vegan friendly beer, many beer enthusiasts will be blown away by how different the taste might be compared to a normal bottled beer.
This being our first vegan ever sampled on The Cask Connoisseur, it was an exciting opportunity where both Luke and Chris were able to share there own views on this revived Organic Pale Ale.
Tasting Notes of Dalit King from Our Connoisseurs
- Appearance – This welcoming amber coloured beer delivers the perspective of that general lager colour, rest assured though the aroma is nothing compared to a standard UK lager. It pours just like a Belgian beer, a lively froth that converts into a creamy foamy head that sits well at the top of the glass
- Aroma – Although at first the scent maybe unpleasant but it’s naturally balanced with luxurious scents of dark chocolate. The antiseptic aroma can be deceiving at first, but with being only a small amount of this, it’s not to overpowering.
- Flavour – The impressive characteristic of any beer is how a complex aroma is switched into a delightful flavourful drink. Dalit King provided a sweet and fruity palate with impeccable amounts of honey, caramel and strawberries.
How to enjoy Dalit King?
Having delivered such a successful finish on the palate, both Chris and Luke certainly made the connection that Dalit King has that summer vibe linked to it. If you’re preparing or attending a family BBQ this beer is certainly an option to have available on the reception drinks table.
You could even go down an alternative route and sample this at the seaside, whilst digging into the classical seafront chippy, that’s an ultimate match made in heaven.
Our Connoisseur’s Conclusion on Dalit King
Dalit King is no doubt a legendary iconic heritage beer that can be enjoyed at moderate levels due to it’s high ABV. Plus, taking in the flavour really brings out the story of how this beer was at risk of being finished.
The nose can be deceiving, but this doesn’t indicate that the aroma is awful, it actually brings that complex excitement as your having to guess what the different scents are. It’s a great game that both our Connoisseurs love doing with whisky or beer.
Dalit King deserves to be drunk with it’s quality taste charcter that thrives through the glass, and it’s greatly appreciated that Great Newsome Brewery were able to revive this amazing, sweet Organic Vegan Friendly Beer! A true fit for any king!
